Last Post-War Drabble: It's not murder, it's a metaphor

Title: It's not murder, it's a metaphor
Author: fryadvocate
Disclaimer: I don't own them, JK Rowling does.
Summary: Countdown.
Note: Sequel to Outside Sleep's Open Window, last post war drabble.

Five: When he's five rooms from having a completely new house, one that hasn't had generations of other owners and years of war in it, Draco stops for lunch. Neville is in the living room listening to the latest herbology journal read to him by the new spell Hermione taught him; he says, "Lunch time, then?"

The kitchen is warm with sun and light reflected off the new countertops, so Draco decides to make sandwiches and take Neville out so that they can watch Harry. Only, Harry's come in, so light Draco doesn't hear him. Harry kisses Draco.

Four: It's been four days since Neville almost broke his neck when he fell down the stairs, and he still distrusts the house. Although there's been talk of getting him a tutor, the functioning members of his social group are too busy trying to hold everything else together, so he walks gently and carefully and distrusts furniture.

When Draco brings him a sandwich he eats it. In the kitchen he hears scrabbling that sounds like fighting and he doesn't go to check.

Three: Lupin is tired because of the three new confirmed dead and wants to sleep in a room that doesn't remind him of Tonks, so he goes home with Hermione and rests on her couch. After she's set him there with blankets and pillows, she goes into the kitchen and wraps a cold cut sandwich on a plate for him, so that he won't have to make anything when he wakes up, when Ron comes in, she kisses him lightly.

Then she goes back to the office.

Two: Harry pushes the fingers of his right hand, his snitch-catching hand, into Draco's hair and wants and wants and wants. He will keep doing this forever if he thinks that it will make him not want to claw off his own skin for two whole minutes.

One: Harry and Draco kiss for the first time and their world moves on.

Oh, wow! I've been following along, and I always hate to see things end, but you wrapped it up neatly. I really like the way you wrote this last piece.

Oh, I'm so glad that you liked the ending. I was getting a little nervous because my "drabble" had evolved into a series that needed a conclusion. Thanks for reading.

Fantastic! Of course the end never comes easily and it's nice to see that while there is pain and distrust there is also a slight sense of hope. I adored this.

Awww. Thanks sweetie. Yeah, the thing about post war is that everyone is so broken that it's hard for them to see that living, surviving is hope.

So, I read this series after reading your most recent Narcissa fic. Wow, I really loved this. Very heartbreaking for, well, everyone. Right now, I'm in awe of your talent.

:D

Thank you! These started as just a way to get the "everyone's ok" post-war rant off my chest. Then they wouldn't let me go, so... *shrug*
